U.S.
Boycott of U.N. Conference
This week I signed a letter to Secretary Rice urging that the
United States not participate in a conference led by Libya and
Iran. Under the guise of human rights, the United Nations is
organizing the Durban II Anti-Racism Conference. This conference
will serve only as a platform for anti-democratic values and
the destruction of Israel and is the follow-up and implementation
arm of the U.N. World Conference on Racism held in 2001. The
United States walked out of this previous event when the anti-Semitism
and anti-Israel activities reached an intolerable level that
was beyond repair. I was pleased that the United States announced,
late in the week, that we would not send representation to this
follow-up conference out of concern for its structure and development,
and I fully support the decision.

Internship Opportunities Available
Internships are available for students and recent college graduates
through both the state and Washington, D.C., offices. These
internships will provide you with a unique glance at the inner
workings of Nevada congressional affairs and the United States
Senate. Through your own eyes, you will experience the many
facets of the legislative branch of government. In my Washington,
D.C.,office you will have the opportunity to assist in researching
legislation, providing constituent services, or attending committee
meetings and press conferences. The Senate internship will provide
you with a well-developed knowledge of our country’s legislative
process. I am certain you will develop a new sense of pride
in our nation as you become an integral part of this process.
Please follow the link below for more detailed information on
internship opportunities at any of my offices.

National Prayer Breakfast
The annual National Prayer Breakfast took place this week in
Washington, D.C. Faithful from all over the world gathered in
our nation’s Capital to join hands in unity and prayer.
As an annual gathering attendee, I am constantly inspired by
the ability of people to put their differences aside and come
together as a group of one, united in prayer and faith. I look
forward to this event every year, and this year was no different.
The bond shared by the thousands who attend the National Prayer
Breakfast cannot be broken by politics, distance, or time. As
with all years, the event went beyond expectation and proved
to be a very moving experience.
