This is one of Washington's best kept secrets. Visitors
will experience a unique opportunity to learn about the
history of the Treasury Department and the role this building
has played in the history of our country. See the Salmon
Chase Suite, which was occupied by Abraham Lincoln's Treasury
Secretary and features elaborate decorative paintings;
the Andrew Johnson Suite, which served as a temporary
office for President Johnson following Lincoln's assassination;
the 1864 Burglar Proof Vault, which used innovative technology
to keep safe the currency, gold, and silver once stored
there. Advance registration is required. Signed tours

Tours of the White House have recently been expanded to
include parties of ten or more, regardless of age or type
of group. Tours are scheduled from 7:45 a.m. to 11:30
a.m. Tuesday through Saturday. These self-guided tours
are granted by the White House on a first-come, first-served
basis and can be arranged through our office no more than
six months and no less than six weeks in advance. Please
be aware that there is a possibility that some requests
may be denied, even if submitted in a timely manner. Tours
will be confirmed no earlier than three weeks prior to
